10 Commandments for Happiness

I didn’t know all of the Ten Commandments before I wrote this blog.

But that’s okay.  God forgives me because I’m imperfect.  God gave Moses these commandments NOT because he wants to set rules for us and then punish us when we fail. God wanted to give us some guideline to help us live happier lives.  Actually, humans asked God to give us clearer rules.

But Jesus knows that we are imperfect and we can’t keep all of the commandments.  Every person is born sinful.  But God loved us so much so he sent Jesus, his son, to die for your sins, so that we may be perfect in God’s eyes.

The Ten Commandments by God:

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
  3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.
I recently read “The Happiness Project”.  It’s a great fun read about Gretchen’s adventures to find happiness.

The Twelve Commandments by Gretchen Rubin (Author of  “The Happiness Project“)

  1. Be Gretchen.
  2. Let it go.
  3. Act the way I want to feel.
  4. Do it now.
  5. Be polite and be fair.
  6. Enjoy the process.
  7. Spend out.
  8. Identify the problem.
  9. Lighten up.
  10. Do what ought to be done.
  11. No calculation.
  12. There is only love.
I decided to write my own 10 commandments after reading God’s commandments and Gretchen Rubin’s 12 commandments.  I wanted to give myself  personalized rules to make myself happier.

My Ten Commandments for myself:

  1. Love God by serving others.
  2. Always look for a chance to share the Gospel.
  3. Live Simple.
  4. Eat healthy.  Don’t eat at the Macdonalds. (It’s 10 seconds aways from my house).
  5. Exercise.  Don’t take the bus home from school. (It’s a 15 minute walk).
  6. Keep social networks to a minimum.  Make more face time.
  7. Don’t buy crap.
  8. Be content.
  9. Sleep. Rest.
  10. Smile more.
What are your personalized commandments?
